[ Whenever Lance thinks to check his phone this morning, there is quite the backlog of messages waiting... ]

[When Lance does wake up, it's because of the repeated buzzing from his phone vibrating every couple of minutes, so Boa's attempts aren't totally in vain. Still, he's tired as hell because he didn't get much sleep and his movements are sluggish at best. He fumbles for his phone, hits the wrong button on the touch screen at least twice and then he finally sees that backlog of messages.

Suddenly he's a whole lot less tired.]

SORRY. I'm fine. I'm sorry.

[ The relief that floods Boa at that simple message is almost embarrassing. Of course he had tried to tell himself that a murder in their current situation is entirely unlikely and would never happen, but another part of him remembers how out of control they all were when they killed. How Ren hit the final stone against his own head, not master of his own body.

Remembering made him afraid and no rationality could truly soothe him. ]

Where are you

I'm heading back now.

[That's not an answer to the question, but it's just not a question that he really wants to tackle right this second. He also knows Boa's not really going to let him get away with a dodge, but he has to try that first.

Within the next minute or so, Lance opens the door to their apartment as stated, but there's an unusual amount of furtiveness to his behavior. Usually he'd be swinging the door all the way open and being generally loud or obvious about his general existence, but he seems to be putting in active effort not to be loud this morning. Perhaps he really is just that tired.]

[ Lance will find Boa scowling at him when he returns. Of course, technically Boa knows that Lance can go wherever he wants and doesn't owe them any explanations... but would it really be too much to ask to just receive a warning beforehand, after all they went through with morning disappearances?

Lance's demeanor gives Boa pause though. He's truly apologetic then...? Or....? ]

... are you okay?

[It's not that surprising to see Boa hanging out in the common space, even less surprising to see that he's glaring, but it still gets him to grimace before he closes the door behind him.]

Yep, just peachy. How about you?

[finalguard]

[ Angry. Angry at Lance for staying out so long and angry at himself for being such a fool to get this worked up over it.

But really, Boa doesn't want to talk about that, so he just flat out ignores the question. ]

What happened?

[...that was also predictable. Of course Boa wasn't going to let it go. There's a moment of hesitation where Lance glances quickly in the direction of Nine's room, then focuses back down at Boa.]

..do we have to talk about it right now? I'm kinda tired. Did you eat?

[ Boa just stares Lance down. ]

I did. Did you?

[ Wherever you were. Something clearly happened there. Judging by the fact that no excessive apologies for making him worry are coming in, Boa is very sure that this is not at all the reason for Lance's mood. ]

If not, we can talk over your breakfast.

[...and now they're in a weird staring contest. Lance rubs the back of his head awkwardly, trying to defuse the tension with a bit of a laugh.]

I was just gonna eat some toast in my room though....

And that's an obstacle because...?

[ Lance he has been to your room before........ That's no forbidden zone. ]

[...god. Boa is so persistent about this that he just rubs his face.]

Because I said so?

[Lance slinks off towards the kitchen to grab the entire package of sliced bread and a glass of water. Then as he makes his way back towards his room, he pauses to face Boa again.]

Okay fine, come in.

[finalguard]

[ Boa gives a short satisfied nod at that and lets himself into the room. He takes a seat, staring at Lance expectantly. ]

You're not okay, let alone 'peachy'.

[particlebarrier]

[Lance doesn't tackle that loaded statement right away, choosing instead to take his sweet time getting himself settled. The bread and water both sit on his desk, and then Lance flops down on the edge of his bed where he can reach both.; He takes a long drink of water first then breathes out.]

You can't tell Nine or anyone else about this, alright?

[ This is funnily similar to when he came to Nine and made him swear not to tell Lance about what he was going to ask. Too bad that whatever is about to happen now seems to be far less frivolous.

And Boa is starting to be able to take a guess. He nods. ]

I won't. It's Tal, then?

[particlebarrier]

[He tenses up as Boa just hits bullseye on the issue. It takes him a second to work out what on earth he'd said that had led the kid to that exact conclusion because it hadn't been obvious in his mind, but once he catches it he just groans mentally.]

...yeah. I was with Tal last night.

[He has a half grumpy-half embarrassed bite of bred.]

... with?

[ He's 11 but people have overshared at him (or other zombies whose eyes he could unfortunately utilize) quite a bit now.

MAKING SURE. ]

[Unthinking, he continues to chew on that bread.]

[The implications of being asked to clarify what "with" means in this context catch up to him a moment later and it's really obvious when that happens because--]

Wait-

[And there he goes choking a little on his bread as he splutters.]

Not WITH-with, Boa!!

[finalguard]

[ Boa defensively raises his hands a little. ]

I was just asking! I can never tell with you older teens!

[ Nine is a bad influence on his life maybe. ]

I'm not Nine, okay?

[Taking another sip of water to clear his throat here. When he puts the glass back down, his tone softens a pinch from indignation to embarrassment with it.]

I'm not Ren or Tal either. I don't... do the whole promiscuous thing, alright?

[Kind of part of the issue here actually....]

[finalguard]

[ Boa tilts his head at that, but given their previous conversations about romance and liking people, he actually lets it go without question. ]

Okay, that's... good. But then what is wrong?

[particlebarrier]

[....And this is it. This is the moment that the hypocrisy of his prior outburst catches Lance so thoroughly between its teeth that he just slumps backwards on his bed, resting his head against the wall.]

..something promiscuous.

[He snags his pillow and covering his face with it.]

Just not to that degree.

[finalguard]

[ Uh... ?! Boa already has horrible ideas in his head again, but he'll have mercy on Lance and stop the guessing game. He also doesn't want to have to speculate on it any more. ]

How so?

[ And why? Why are the older teens this way.... ]
