[ Uh... ?! Boa already has horrible ideas in his head again, but he'll have mercy on Lance and stop the guessing game. He also doesn't want to have to speculate on it any more. ]

How so?

[ And why? Why are the older teens this way.... ]

[There's a bit of silence and the pillow remains exactly where it is over his face, which might make Lance's eventually mumbled response even more difficult to understand, but he does reply eventually.]

We kissed. That's it.

[ At this point, an answer this mild comes as a relief more than anything, but it's still not good news. Tal's claimed a third victim. Is that cheating in Tal's case even...? Do Nine and Ren consider it that...? It's definitely cheating in Lance's case though.

Boa is silent for a moment. He has nothing good to say about this. Let's settle for accusations? ]

He started it, didn't he?

[Lance starts to nod, and the pillow slides down his face and ends up on his stomach. Sighing, he sits up properly and just sits cross legged, hugging the pillow in his lap.]

It was an avoidable situation and it was probably my fault for getting into it in the first place.

[He frowns then sighs.]

Why am I even telling you this.

[finalguard]

Because I'm your brother and I'm worried about you?

[ Look, in Boa's eyes this is a very obvious explanation and he seems almost annoyed to have to give it. ]

[That gets Lance to look up at Boa with a slight headtilt. It's the first time Boa's said as much, and though the sentiment being mutual isn't exactly surprising, it's still gets him to blink before moving on like no big deal.]

Hey, you don't have to be worried. This is... really nothing in comparison to all the other things going on.

[finalguard]

[ Well, yeah. That much is clear. This thing between the boys is just... kind of ridiculous. But it's a ridiculous that drags on and one and gets everyone more and more hurt. Boa is absolutely sick of it. ]

But I am worried. You, Nine... Floe and Ren.... you're all getting betrayed because one guy is too greedy to ever make up his mind.

[particlebarrier]

[He grimaces at that, shoulders rounding more around the pillow.]

...man. That really is a long list, huh.

[He knew that though, which is why none of this actually feels that great.]

I can't really do that to Floe. And I can't really do this to myself either.

[finalguard]

Well, you better don't.

[ Every second he thinks about this, it just makes him angrier. He actually gets up from his seat to pace around the room a little. ]

And Tal isn't worth your time to start with.

[That gets Lance to frown a little, looking up.]

Ugh, you're going way too far. Tal's a good friend.

[finalguard]

Oh, is he?

[ Boa bristles at this assessment. ]

If he was a good friend or even a good boyfriend, wouldn't he care about how you or Nine feel?!

[particlebarrier]

Boa, you have the wrong idea going here.

[Lance rubs his face, feeling way too tired to have an argument about this.]

It's my fault for letting it happen, alright? I knew he liked me. I knew I kinda had some feelings for him that I was trying not to think about, too. It was a mistake thinking we could hang out like just friends under those circumstances. That's not on Tal alone.

[finalguard]

[ This gets Boa to stop pacing, if only because he has to stare at Lance for a little bit, trying to comprehend what he just said. It's... simply not a situation he can really imagine. This lack of self-restraint...? Lance talks about it as if it is normal, so maybe this is an older boy thing yet again. Boa just finds it weird. ]

Maybe you both messed up then.

[ If you insist on it, Lance. ]

I still think his part in it is worse.

[particlebarrier]

[Well seeing as Boa's finally quit pacing dramatically, Lance seems to relax again.]

...Yeah, I was more mad at myself than anything. I'm gonna do my part to mess up less though.

[He has that sip of water finally, then begins plinking at the glass with his fingers.]

This isn't really related to Tal, but...I think I'm ending it with Floe. I want to be there for her. Floe's always going to be important to me, but... I just can't be her boyfriend right now. ...His boyfriend.

[finalguard]

[ .... ah. At least this gets Boa to stop his anger tirades about Tal and actually focus fully on the person in front of him.

He goes silent for a second, but there's no real hesitation behind his answer. ]

Do it then.

[ He'd always say this, but after last night it seems especially due for. Not just for Lance, but for Floe too even though her well-being is very secondary to Boa. ]

There's no reason to drag it out.

I will.

[And though there is a part of him that's anxious about yet another change in his life, he knows practically speaking this is what's best for him and for Floe, even if that is going to hurt. He needs space, he needs time, he needs to figure out how to be himself again before he can even consider being with another person who is just as complicated, just as beaten up from everything that camp threw at them again.This much he's certain of.

He nods and there's a kind of determined grit to it before it fades into a soft laugh.]

It's funny. I know I said the entire point of summer flings was to have intense crushes that end in broken hearts cuz the summer's come and gone, but man camp put a whole different spin on that.

[finalguard]

[ This makes summer flings sound deeply unappealing to Boa, but okay he's... just not going to question this logic of setting yourself up for a broken heart. ]

You've got a lifetime supply of it in one go now. Congratulations.

Hey, if there's any fairness in this world, it'll mean the next relationship I get into will be Mrs Blue Lion, heh. That'd be nice.

[It's a very distant thought - strange even. As much as he still loves the idea of being with someone special, it's not anything he feels compelled to rush into. He has to take care of himself first before he can take care of others -- he's learned that the hard way.]

Life's too short to live it alone... but I think it's okay to need that from time to time, too.

[finalguard]

[ Lance is undeniably the older brother in their dynamic, for various reasons including their actual real ages, but hearing this, Boa can't help but feel proud of Lance. It actually makes him smile. ]

Live for yourself, yeah.

[particlebarrier]

Mhm. Me-time now.

[And with that, Lance gives Boa's hair a familiar ruffle, then plops the rest of the bread he was eating into his mouth. Joking, he adds:]

Guess that means no bread for you. Mine now.

It was yours to begin with...

[ Boa shakes his head, still smiling. Though he's still mad at Tal about all that he just heard, now he overwhelmingly feels happy that Lance has finally decided to practice self-care. It was so overdue. ]

[Still grinning, Lance helps himself to another slice of bread.]

Heh. I meant the entire loaf is mine. Guess you and Nine won't be having toast for breakfast for the next couple of days.

[A beat.]

Or milk. I've decided the milk is mine, too. I could get used to this whole "not sharing anything" routine.

[ .... that's not how it works, Boa is pretty sure of it. ]
